Nintendo DS Lite

August 8, 2006

Why i had to have it…
Im not a gamer, I bought this exclusively for one application that has been creating a lot of buzz, “Brain Age” The program has been scientifically proven to help reduce and reverse the brains aging process with few minutes of exercise a day. Brain Age was developed by a Japanese neuroscientist, Professor Ryūta Kawashima. Dr. Kawashima is known for his bestselling book Train Your Brain: 60 Days To A Better Brain.

How could I go wrong with a blend neuroscience and video game technology the DS Lite and Brain Age had to be the best solution to keep my brain active and quick. Other things that sold me was that it only takes a few minutes a day, everyone has a few minutes I don’t care who you are you got to take a dump sometime.

Whats new from the original DS?
Its got a cool Applish look! Its all white with a smooth glossy finish just like the MacBooks. Its physically lighter and smaller than the original. The Nintendo DS Lite boasts its new screens, which are far more superior in quality and are more scratch resistant. The screens now have the option of 4 brightness setting, which the original did not have.

Fun Fact:
Nintendo sent a DS Lite with a copy of Brain Age to President Bush for his 60th birthday.

What I like…
It looks cool. Screens are bright and easy to see. It has free wireless gaming and it works! I tested Mario Kart DS (which has wireless functionality) and I was able to play against other users in Japan within minutes. You can link up with friends and play against each other any time. Other things that I liked are the touch screens and the DS’s voice recognition ability that Brain Age utilizes in its training sessions.

Didn’t like…
The DS Lite is not designed for extended game play. I have small hands so I feel I can speak for demo that they are targeting. After 10 minutes of Mario Kart DS my hands got really sore. However, I did not experience this with Brain Age because Brain Age is designed to be held like a book and you use the stylus and your voice to navigate.

Overall…
I am happy with my purchase. My Brain Age has dropped from 65 to 33 years old with 50 days of training. I really do feel that my memory and my brains response rate has improved. $150($129-Nintendo + $19-DSBrain Age) to me is a great investment for something that really works and that is fun to do.

Where I got it from: Target Retail Store
Nintendo DS Lite $129.99
Brain Age $19.99
Mario Kart DS $29.99

I write these pretty quick so if I left out anything please feel free to ask.
